MR. GEORGE E. SINEATH
Inducted 2003
Mr. George E. Sineath was born in 1928 of "Moody" and June Sineath. He grew up in Folly Beach, SC during the 1930's and 1940's. His familiarity with nearby Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began, sparked in him a lifetime interest in world history. He was renowned for his depth of knowledge and understanding of how the United States was formed and its place in the world today.

At an early age, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a seaman. Through hard work, talent, tenacity, and charisma he advanced through the ranks. He was nominated for and earned a commission, and ultimately retired as a much decorated Commander in July 1971.

George's love and devotion to his family was the deciding factor that led him to retire and move back to West Columbia with his wife Claudia and daughter Diane in order to focus his time and care on their well-being. Following his return to West Columbia, he began his second career by obtaining his Teaching Certification at the University of South Carolina. He came to Brookland-Cayce High School as a student teacher with Mrs. Willie Byrd, and was subsequently hired in 1972 as the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) advisor.

In 1973 he moved to the Math Department where he worked for the next seventeen years. He became renowned with students and faculty as a very competent and challenging teacher. His expectations for excellence were sometimes intimidating, and his flair for the zany was legendary. George was a role model and inspiration to all, and many of his students adopted his standards in their own lives and became prominent and influential citizens in the community. He was elected as Teacher of the Year in 1988 and was inducted into the Lexington District Two Heroes and Heroines Society in 1995-96.

Commander George Sineath passed away on July 10, 2011, beginning his exploration of God's unchartered Ocean of Eternal Life. He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Diane, who passed away on November 17, 2010.
