At their November 14 meeting, the Foundation Board of Directors chose Mrs. Donna Wiles and Mr. Robbie Stevens for induction into the Educator Hall of Fame.
Mrs. Wiles taught mathematics at Brookland-Cayce High School for 36 years beginning in 1970. She was Chairman of the Mathematics Department from 1990 to 2006, BCHS Teacher of the Year in 2000 and 2001, coached the BCHS Academic Team State Division Champions, and was a multiple-year award selection for Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Mr. Stevens had a career of 35 years in education which included both academic teaching and coaching in football, basketball, golf, and baseball. He was the Assistant Principal at Brookland-Cayce High School from 1996 through 1998, and taught mathematics and history from 1999 to 2004 and 2007 to 2009. Mr. Stevens was still a teacher at BCHS when he lost his courageous battle with cancer in February 2009. Mrs. Wiles and Mr. Stevens will be inducted into the Educator Hall of Fame at the annual GALA at Seawell's on Rosewood Drive in Columbia on Thursday, March 1, 2012. FOUNDATION COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP AND TEACHER GRANT AWARDS Spring 2012 |
The Foundation will award college scholarships to a number of graduating BCHS seniors at the end of this school year,
through an application process conducted by the Foundation's Scholarship Committee with assistance from the BCHS Guidance Center.
The Foundation will award grants to selected BCHS teachers at the end of this school year, so that they may better meet the educational needs of their students in the academic year 2012-2013. Grants are awarded based on merit and available funds. Application forms are available in the "FORMS" section below. |

2011 TEACHERS BREAKFAST |
The Foundation's annual Teachers Appreciation Breakfast was held on Tuesday, August 16 in the BC cafeteria. The Breakfast is given each August by the Foundation to honor and express our appreciation to the teachers, the administration, and the custodial staff as they embark on a new school year. |

2011 FOUNDATION AWARDS: • College Scholarships • Teacher Grants • Teacher of the Year |
At the BCHS Scholarship Awards Assembly on Friday, May 20, the Foundation awarded approximately $33,000 in student scholarships to qualifying seniors. At the Teacher Grants and Teacher of the Year Awards Assembly held in the BC Cafeteria on Thursday, June 2, the Foundation presented a total of $10,500 in Teacher Grants to 26 different teachers, for projects in the upcoming 2011-2012 academic year. The BCHS Education Foundation also presented a cash award to Mr. Laird Thompson, for being chosen the BCHS Teacher of the Year by vote of his fellow teachers. |
